1945 Nominal Roll: 1CACR
1945 Nominal Roll: 1CACR
The nominal roll (Service numbers and names) for the 1st Canadian Armoured Carrier Regiment, is available here. These lists represent all the serving members of the Regiment* between formation of the full regiment, Oct 24, 1944 and disbandment on June 20, 1945.
Rank listed is that listed upon being struck off strength and not necessarily the highest rank achieved during an individuals career in the army. Lists are sorted by Province/Military District. The regiment was formed in the field using reinforcements brought from various sources. This made the serving strength unusual in that the regiment did not have established ties to any particular area or place in Canada. The members came from every region of Canada and even a few from the then independent Newfoundland.
“Personnel of the Kangaroo Regiment were drawn
from all units of the Canadian Armoured Corps and
some from Artillery formations. Every province and every
Military District had its quota of representatives.
These diverse elements with their scattered loyalties
were moulded by the mud and blood and toil and
danger of a difficult winter campaign into a
united Regiment of high morale.”
— Lt. Col. GM Churchill
Enlisted ranks were given a service number with a letter prefix corresponding to the Military District they were a resident of. Officers during WW2 were not given a service number and are listed in a separate table. Click on a district below to see the full list.
